When we set out to make a mountain bike stem, we wanted to nail a few things on our Rockville, Viking and Slickrock stems. It happens to be our most affordable stem, but make no mistake, we didn't cut corners when making this stem. The third stem in the Trail One Components lineup is the Slickrock stem. Conversely, because more cross-country oriented bikes have steeper. Shorter stems (roughly 60mm or less) will deliver quicker and more responsive handling, which is why they’re the preferred choice for slacker trail and enduro bikes. Still being fully CNC’d, the Viking stem comes in a 40mm length and both 31.8mm & 35.0mm handlebar clamp diameters. For mountain bike riders, bike stem length effects fit but also plays a significant role in how a bike handles. Taking lots of the design cues from the Rockville, the Viking structure is the same with just a bit less machining, taking less time to produce and therefore being a bit more budget friendly. Next in our stem lineup is the Viking stem. ![]() We also have two colors for the Rockville - an industrial black, and a clear anodize. Made in California, the Rockville is made from 6061 alloy, 35.0mm handlebar clamp, available in a 32mm and 40mm length, and weighs in at 144g and 157g respectively. While we love our brand, nobody wants to ride billboard bike parts that take away from the appearance of your bike. Adding a couple of degrees in rise will bring you upright for greater comfort, while less rise or drop puts you in a lower position for increased speed and stability. If your current bike set-up has you feeling cramped or stretched - a new stem with an. While the average sweet spot is between 90 to 120mm, you could go longer for a more stretched-out position or shorter for a more upright position on gravel or daily commuting. MTB Stems tend to be shorter than road stems to help with control. Road bike stems go long for more stability, predictable handling, and better aerodynamics. Whatever stem you end up with, remember, the best one offers a quick response that keeps your bike where you want it and keeps your riding position comfortable. Race Face and ENVE offer stems in various lengths, rises, and materials for easy shopping and fit. Because modern trail and DH bikes are slacker, a shorter stem around 35mm to 50mm puts your weight in the back for improved handling and stability, XC riders go a tad longer for a faster and more stretched out racing position. Mountain bike stems dial in fit, response, and handling on the trail, and these days, size certainly does matter. ![]()
